Shorty’s 80th Birthday Bash: A Western Celebration of Legends, Laughter & Legacy
Some people wear the West. Others live it.
This past weekend, we had the immense honor of attending an unforgettable celebration in Oklahoma City: the 80th birthday bash of the one and only Shorty of @shortyscaboyhattery. And let us tell you—when a legend turns 80, you show up, boots polished and hearts full.

It was a night that perfectly captured the spirit of the Western way of life: timeless, humble, bold, and full of stories worth passing down. The room was filled with cowboys, cowgirls, friends, fans, and folks who’ve long admired Shorty’s grit, grace, and ground-breaking legacy. And we’re proud to count ourselves among them.
Who Is Shorty? A True Western Icon
If you know Western fashion, you know Shorty Koger. And if you don’t—well, saddle up.
For decades, Shorty has been a force in cowboy culture, blazing trails as a woman in a male-dominated industry and setting the gold standard in custom hat-making with her iconic Shorty’s Caboy Hattery.
Her hand-shaped, high-crowned hats have become staples in the rodeo world, music industry, and beyond. Worn by champions, celebrities, and everyday cowboys alike, Shorty’s hats aren’t just accessories—they’re heirlooms.

But it’s not just her hats that make her legendary.
It’s who she is.
Her unwavering work ethic.
Her love for the craft.
The way she uplifts others—especially women carving their own paths in the Western world. She’s fierce, she’s funny as hell, and she’s full of life—and at 80, she’s still going strong.
To us, Shorty isn’t just a Western icon. She’s a friend. A mentor. A woman we deeply admire.
A Night to Remember
The birthday bash was exactly what you’d expect from a woman who’s spent her life making the world a more stylish place—vibrant, heartfelt, and absolutely full of life.
There were cowboy hats as far as the eye could see, live music, storytelling, and more hugs than we could count. Friends from across the country gathered to raise a toast to the woman who helped shape an entire industry.

You could feel the love in the air—from longtime customers to rising stars to industry legends, everyone came to pay tribute to Shorty’s lasting impact.
We shared laughs, swapped stories, and maybe even teared up once or twice. It was one of those nights that reminds you why the Western community is unlike any other—it’s real, it’s rooted, and it’s full of people who show up for one another.
Meeting Jen Landon: A Yellowstone Dream Come True
As if the night wasn’t magical enough, we also had the joy of meeting someone we’ve long admired from afar: the incredibly talented Jennifer Landon—aka Teeter from Yellowstone.
Let’s be honest: Teeter stole our hearts the second she stepped on screen. With her fearless attitude, unmistakable twang, and grit that rivals the Montana wilderness itself, she’s been one of the most beloved characters on the series. And Jennifer? She’s every bit as magnetic in person.

Meeting her at Shorty’s birthday bash was the cherry on top of an already unforgettable night. She was gracious, humble, kind, and so easy to talk to. We swapped stories, shared some laughs, and came away with even more admiration than we walked in with (which we didn’t think was possible).
Pro tip: If you ever get the chance to say hello to Jen Landon—do it. She’s the real deal, both on and off screen.
The Women Who Inspire Us
This weekend wasn’t just about birthdays and fan moments—it was a celebration of women who shape the Western world, day in and day out.
At Windmill Ceiling Fans & Lighting Co., we’ve always believed in honoring craftsmanship, tradition, and the people who make it all happen. And women like Shorty and Jen remind us why we do what we do. They represent style, strength, and staying power—three things that are woven into the very DNA of our company.
From our hand-finished windmill ceiling fans to our custom chandeliers, every piece we make is rooted in that same spirit. Built tough, made beautifully, and created to leave a lasting legacy—just like the women we celebrated this weekend.
More Than Hats and Hardware—It’s About Heart
One of our favorite moments of the night came during the toasts. So many folks stood up to speak about Shorty—not just as a hat maker, but as a friend, a supporter, and someone who’s always willing to lend a hand or speak a word of encouragement.
It reminded us that being in this industry isn’t just about what you make—it’s about how you make people feel. And Shorty has made thousands of people feel seen, heard, and supported over the years. That’s a legacy money can’t buy.
We hope that our work—whether it’s the quiet hum of a custom Windmill Ceiling Fan or the glow of a handcrafted chandelier—offers that same feeling of warmth, connection, and authenticity in the spaces people call home.
Here’s to the Next Chapter
Shorty, thank you for being a pioneer, a powerhouse, and a friend. We are endlessly grateful for your friendship, your fearless leadership, and your fierce love for the Western way of life.
And to Jennifer Landon—thank you for reminding us that some stars shine brightest when they’re just being themselves. You brought kindness, humility, and joy to the celebration, and we won’t soon forget it.
Here’s to the women who inspire us, the legends who lead the way, and the FAN-ily who make this ride so unforgettable.
